A Review of
Brotherhood in Death By Author J.D Robb
Excerpt from the
Jacket
Sometimes brotherhood can be another word for conspiracy. .
. .
Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he
learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent
about their late grandfather’s magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the
promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the
house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the
head.
Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD’s top
profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the
scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised
and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and
the security disks removed, there’s nothing left behind but a few traces for
forensics to analyze.
As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled
with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular
basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind
closed—and locked—doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into
places others can’t go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals
and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord
over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate . . . and a new case that no
one saw coming.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
I have read every in Death book
that has been released to this point one of my favorite times is when I can sit
down and connect with my old friend Eve Dallas and her hunky king of the world
husband Roarke. This book is just as good as the ones in the past I do not
understand how J,D Robb keeps these books as interesting and relevant as the
first one. This is the 42nd book in the series from what I understand from her
interviews she plans on writing many more and stopping when Eve and Roarke have
a child but that is not confirmed. What I like about these books is while there
is a lot of futuristic aspects (Auto chef anyone) they are not so overly done
that it seems that out of reach, a lot of time a when an author is writing
about the future they try to add too many gadgets and make the world overly
complicated.
I feel like this book showed me
Eve’s growth at one time she would die before suggesting using Roarke private
transportation to get a state now we see her grow into accepting that she can
use his help and still be a good cop. We see that while Eve still has the
demons of her past however they are more in the background, she is getting to a
point she can live with them and not let them override her. We still see a few
nightmares but they are more in the abstract now showing that she is changing.
Sometimes in stories like these the author feels the need to keep the character
the same with little growth I like that Robb let her grow and change but still
have that vulnerability of her past. Eve like us all has insecurities and that
allows us to relate to her but this time I think the author was to callus with
those insecurities. There is an issue with her and Roarke and an office I think
was not well done of Robb to add it seemed out of place.
The plot of this book went to a
place I was not expecting the crime that was committed that started this chain
of events came out of left field for me. I loved that you really do not
understand until through the middle of the book the motive behind the murders
and when you find out you can see the little details that preceded the
revelation in a different light and go “oh that make sense I see it now”. Part
of the joy is the why and if you get the why to early it brings down the rest
of the story because you know the why and the who so what is the point of
reading more not an issue in this book at all.
We see the normal mix of characters
we normally do She- body always there to help Eve navigate and Trueheart who is
personally one of my favorite parts in this story is when we see how much he
was able to grow and become a detective and what that means to Eve. We also get
a better understanding of the Mira’s and their life we see one of their
daughters who I did not like and am still iffy on in relation to how she
interacts with Eve. Eve gets more of the true feelings of love from Dennis
while he gains an understanding about Eve’s past that you find heartwarming and
right. The love between Roarke and Eve is just as hot as day one the sex scenes
are hot hot hot but not too overdone or often this story stands on its own without
the need for a sec scene in every chapter.
